Recent lurker here, and a long-time creative force of nature. I'm an actor and emerging filmmaker out of Toronto, Canada who makes entertaining and forward-thinking women-led films and theatre content.

My previous work has been recognized by Valuecine for blowing gender parity on-screen out of the water (over 90% of screentime and dialogue by women!), and I'm currently in development on my first featrure film, as well as a television series in the one-hour genre space.

Now I've finally got up the courage to do this, hi all!

I'm Chanter, she who tries to be a donor when possible but who generally lands on the creator (writer, specifically) side of the equation. I'm a crowdfunded scribbler. :)

My main universe at this point is one among the branches of

ysabetwordsmith's Schrodinger's Heroes project. It started out as politically-shaded speculative fiction, but the political turned personal, storywise, pretty much at the outset. It's evolved from one straightforward story arc to a much more involved tapestry with its own cast of characters in addition to the local SH team, and new weaving is happening all the time. It's come to be called the orange!verse, to the core SH dimension's scarlet!verse. Pat's beloved car supplies the name for each 'verse, though Oranje (the Dutch spelling is relevant) has yet to appear in published work. Scarlett's shown up already, though.

Be advised, this universe is not all unremitting darkness and gloom, but it does deal with some heavy issues. Refugee stories, homophobia and transphobia, gender normativity, systemic racism, and physical and sexual violence all show up, some once, others quite widely. I try to post warnings, but clicking on a specific fic does automatically expand a cut tag as far as I remember, and I don't want anyone getting a painful surprise. On the upside, there are distinct elements of radio and language geekery all through this series. :)

Hello!

I'm Jordanna, and I create charm jewelry featuring anime characters. (Along with a few game and cartoon fandoms as well.) I've been meaning to post to this community for a while, and since I just re-photographed my inventory after a convention this past weekend, I figured now would be a good time. :)

My main item is bracelets, but I also make decorative beaded fobs that can be clipped onto pretty much anything: keychains, backpacks/purses, cellphones, flash drives, etc. (In fact, I started out by making fobs for my mother's quilting group to attach to scissors. From there it was only logical to apply my talents to what I loved, and start making anime jewelry.)

For the record, I'm still very much developing my business. This past weekend was only my second convention (and not a great one; walking in to learn the artist alley had been lumped into the video-game room was not cool). I'm not really able to travel beyond my city for cons, and at this stage, I can only afford the table fees at small ones. Being an extremely shy and introverted person also makes it difficult for me to market my products. :Þ I enjoy creating jewelry, though, and I'm hopeful for future opportunities. Needless to say, if anyone here likes my work and gives it some support, it will help me keep working at moving up to bigger and better things.

perfectworry, is currently living in Japan and I really want to go visit her. I would like to provide you guys with art and whatever else I decide to do for money to help me get there. As it is hard for me to keep a job, because of currently undiagnosed disabling health problems, I can't work and save up through conventional ways. But every day with the energy I have I enjoy making art and crafting. Without you guys this wouldn't be possible.

Hi there,

crowdfunding crowd. I'm Paul. I'm a donor. I enjoy crowdfunding because I like helping make good things happen. Really, it's the best feeling in the world. It's also cool to be a part of a larger project. And seeing regular people come together to make possible what established structures can't or won't support. It can also be a great way for a reader to give back to the creators.

In the past, I've supported campaigns to help spread science education and enthusiasm about science, create a documentary about Israeli and Palestinian children learning to dance together and overcome prejudices in the process, online friends make it through lean times, charitable organizations expand and spread the word, build and publicize the "Ground Zero Mosque" (which is not at Ground Zero and is not a mosque), build a statue of Robocop in Detroit, publish books that I'd like to read, and more.

Two of my all-time favorite webcomics are running Kickstarter campaigns. One is about to end, and the other is about to begin.

First up, Girl Genius.

The Girl Genius Kickstarter ends this week. It's blown through two batches of stretch goals and is steaming ahead to the final one. Pledge now, and you'll receive PDFs of the entire run, including plenty of bonus content. If you've never read the comic, I guarantee it's worth it. If you have read the comic, it's a great way to reread, refresh your memory, and relive the awesomeness.

They're at about $284k now. If they can hit $300k, they'll be able to hire someone to help manage the business. Which means expanding into new territory. Which means even more Girl Genius awesomeness making the world more awesome with the power of its awesome. I really want to see that happen. Because it would be awesome.

Meanwhile, Goblins has hit some snags lately. They had to part with their publisher/webhost and it got kind of messy for a while there. But Thunt, being a better man than I (which I do not say often or lightly), has refused to badmouth the other side, has publicly apologized for his part of the stressful and difficult situation, and has called for his fans to stay positive.

The Goblins/Evertide Games Kickstarter, which was delayed due to the whole kerfuffle, starts Monday. It's for a card game based on the comic. And it looks really cool. So keep an eye out for that.

Hello everyone! I'm an independent author/artist working on a couple of projects that I'd like to self-publish and crowd-fund. My hope is that I can get enough people interested in my current project (a novel, To Dream, Perchance to Soar) through word of mouth and friend recommendations that it can take on a life of its own and soar into the world. ^^

The crowd-funding part comes in here: I have several more short stories I've worked on over the years, and I'm hoping to either turn them into a second book, or publish them singly for cheap on the various e-book stores. It will really depend on how much success Soar has.

For the most part, I'm a creative person. When I have the money to do so, I also like to play the role of donor.
What kind of goods or services do you offer?
Primarily tarot and rune readings on my DW & LJ right now, but I'm working on branching out into offering crocheted items, jewelry, poetry, ACEOs/ATCs, mandalas, and whatever other creative works I have that people are interested in supporting. I'm also slowly working on getting the more tangible creative works that I make [along with my other half and our roommate] onto our Etsy shop.
What crowdfunding project(s) are you currently producing?
Currently, I've just begun putting an effort into crowdfunding for my monthly free tarot/rune readings. I am hoping to learn more about this and expand it to include my other creative/artistic endeavors.
What kind of crowdfunding projects do you like to read or view?
I love seeing what artistic projects people have in general. I have always been a big supporter of creative people.
What are some of your favorite crowdfunding projects?

Why do you like cyberfunded creativity?
I like the idea of supporting independent artists who may not get the patronage of "the masses", as it were.

Are you a creative person, a donor, or both?

I'd like to be both, but for now I'm here as a creative person. And a seeker of advice.

What kind of goods or services do you offer?

Right now all I have are the things at my Etsy shop. Crocheted scrunchies, hats, and drawstring bags, and inside-decorated Moleskines, for people who dig places like

paperjournals and

jr__nal but either that sort of decorating isn't their thing, or they don't want to stop to decorate each page. With my Moleskines you can just keep writing and have some kind of decor on every page--though you might want to switch writing instruments here and there.

Two things I'm gathering materials for but don't have the space for right now (and I'm getting ready to move from Fort Wainwright to Fort Drum so even the the zillion crocheted things I've made lately haven't gone up because they'll be shipped with my household goods and I don't know when I'll get them. The things at my Etsy shop will be brought with me in my luggage, though, so those are available for purchase any time) are Large Bead Tapestries, which will be beads made from halved toilet paper rolls that've been covered in cloth or sprayed with metallic spray paint (or both, there are lots of things I can cover them with), and string them together like part of a beaded bracelet, and those will be wall hangings. (I would appreciate if no one else grabbed onto this, 'cause I'm rather proud of it.)

Another thing I'm gathering is Frappucino bottles to make jar candles with, and I'll be experimenting with scents and colors--they won't all be coffee-colored and I took all the stickers off anyway. (This one has been done by all sorts of people in all sorts of ways so I don't mind if anyone uses this idea. I may have come up with it in a vacuum but surely others have too.)

Also, paper beads, though I'm not sure whether to sell them in packs as beads or as already-made jewelry items. Suggestions?

What I'd like to do is have a booth at the Fort Drum post exchange during the holidays, and I'll be looking up prices as soon as we arrive (hopefully this month!), so I'd ask for help setting that up once I had the info, but here's where I ask for advice--how do you think I should go about soliciting donations? Donate $5, get a scrunchie, donate 10, get a coin purse, donate $20, get a hat? 'Cause I can do that, and even take custom orders regarding color. Once I start the other projects I can give out those, too. (And if you want to go ahead and donate now, the PayPal email address is [email protected].)

What kind do you like to read or view?

I like the creative people that have increasingly cool gifts to go with increased donations. It's always more fun to get not just the warm fuzzy feeling of helping a struggling artist (or in my case, a broke-but-not-poor junior enlisted army wife :P) but something that struggling artist made. For example, I want to donate to this lady because the stuff she's offering is cool and useful. :)

Why do you like crowdfunded creativity?

Because the first world totally needs micro-lending too! And it's nice to give the big banks the big finger (or two fingers, depending on your region). ;)

Hello! I am a self-employed designer. I've done everything from basic web design to print ads to large format design to animation to Flash interaction and lots of other stuff. I also sew and do crafty things, and in general I enjoy all kinds of creative pursuits.

I'm a big fan of documentaries: history, nature, art, type, kids, etc. Pretty much whatever. I really like to learn. I read all kinds of fiction, some non-fiction, and play lots of video games, mostly in the style of Mario and Zelda.

Before today, I had never heard of crowdfunding. It sounds fascinating, so I joined the community to learn more about it. :)

Kia Ora! I am a member over at the Live Journal comm. I'm still learning about crowdfunding but have contributed to a few things here and there. This is my photo/book/etc journal, I also have a personal journal and a gardening journal here at DW.

Are you a creative person, a donor, or both? I've mostly been a donor when it comes to crowdfunding. I've funded poetry, contributed to keep a story going, worked with an artist to design a ceramic teapot & have contributed to a crowdfunded film.

Creative-wise I practice photography, hope to make a living at it one day.

What kind of goods or services do you offer?I have a store with gifty-things with my photos on them at Pinepig Studio. I have put together a few books of my photography at my Blurb shop. I also regularly upload my photos to My Webshots albums. I have historically made these free uploads but am considering doing something for crowdfunding with this.

What crowdfunding project(s) are you currently producing? Nothing really, unless you consider my random thoughts of doing something with my Webshots uploads.

What kind of crowdfunding projects do you like to read or view? I like fantasy/sci fi mostly to read. I enjoy seeing people's creativity, whether it be written or in medium like paint, video, or music.

There are booths of arts and crafts, author tables, plenty of music, an open mike, all kinds of fun stuff. Crowds of interesting people are wandering around, and some of them have money to spend. So this is a public place, with a particular purpose, and everyone should behave accordingly.

Please respect each other's opinions, as taste in cultural materials varies widely.
If you don't like something, skip it and go find something you do like; don't pester the provider or the audience.
Don't act like a jerk; this is not an appropriate place for flames or trolls.
If you hurt someone's feelings, apologize and try to fix it.

Crowdfunded Creativity (aka Cyberfunded Creativity) is a new, growing business model. It allows creative folks such as writers and artists to sell their goods and services directly to online audiences. It enables viewers to support their favorite creators, which encourages them to produce more goodies. It cuts out the middleman. CFC can be done through blogs or personal websites, in assorted variations.

What this community offers for creative people:
Use this space to promote your crowdfunded projects and reach a wider audience. You may explain how your particular CFC project works: what you produce, what crowdfunding model you use, what your perks are, etc. You can ask for people's input on projects or decisions when you aren't sure what you want to do. Discussions of CFC theory and practice, success or failure, are also welcome. All kinds of creativity are welcome: writing, art, music, webcomics, crafts, etc.

What this community offers for patrons:
Use this space to find new projects to view and/or support. You may also share your exciting discoveries of projects that you think other viewers might enjoy. Give creators feedback about what kinds of methods or perks you like. Compare/contrast cyberfunded creativity with conventional business models. Full reviews of CFC offerings are especially welcome.

For service providers and seekers:
In cyberfunded creativity, the creator has to do or hire everything. Use this space to find freelance artists, editors, programmers, etc. to handle aspects of your project that lie outside your own skills. Likewise, promote what you can do for potential customers. I just realized I haven't introduced myself yet.

I'm Grey Walker. I think of myself as a mask maker, primarily. But I make all sorts of other art, including matchboxes, paintings, fiber art, and handmade books and chapbooks (containing others' content as well as my own).

I also write, mostly stories and poems about myself as a fictionalized/symbolized Mask Maker, the Maskwood, the Listening House, and an imaginary town I'm exploring, called Holman.

I post about masks and the making thereof at The Maskwood Online Journal, and I'm slowing building The Listening House, which will also eventually incorporate the Listening House Press.

So, hello! Improbable Island is a text adventure game, played in your browser. It's full of lovely, lovely people. I've just launched Season Two, which added a bunch of new storylines, new equipment, new monsters, and a new visual theme. I've been working on Season Two about nine months or so, and finally decided to quit the day job and have a proper go at crowdfunding this thing.

It's already partially crowdwritten - players can submit descriptions and stories for the various beasties that populate the jungle, and they get bonuses in return (I just couldn't quite get up to three hundred monsters on my own). One thing I hope to achieve sometime soon is to teach the players how to code PHP, and open up an area in the game for their own modules. The resource site, including tutorials and examples, should be ready to go by next week.

I think that's everything for now - I think us crowdfunded types should stick together and help each other out, so I'll just mention that I'm a web designer, graphic designer, okay-ish writer, and PHP programmer.
