Crowdfunding: Connecting Creators and Patrons

James has decided that he wants to start learning again and we appear to have found the perfect place for him. It is something he would be able to afford, using his wages, but the problem with this is that he would be using a quarter of what he earns every month in order to be able to pay for it. On top of everything else we have to pay out - rent, groceries, and however much it takes to keep the car running (the tax runs out at the end of May and that's £225) - it's a lot. Now that I'm able to help with the rent and we're splitting the groceries between us it's not so hard on him, but for the first year he was paying the rent alone, so I'd like to be able to help him with paying for his studies to say thank you and to make things easier for him.

At the moment his plan is to start an electronics course of some form, but the school we've found has a number of them so he's still working on deciding which one he wants to do for certain. Even if he decides against this as the path he wants to take I know for certain he wants to get out of retail and do something he enjoys, which means any money I earn specifically for James will go towards whatever he chooses to do in the future. My aim for May is the first module and the registration fee, which is £746.00, although I will be happy if I just manage to earn enough to cover the registration fee (£159.00). When I look at that price I realise that is almost James's salary for a month, once you take off tax and NI... The entire course is 8 modules, so the final total is £4059.00, but we're looking at him doing a module every two months and that makes it easier to pay for. It's still a lot of money and I know he wouldn't be doing it if he didn't think he'd be able to earn more in the end, because his dream has always been to have financial security after not having any when he was younger.
